Putting My Art Out There!

I once described putting my art out for everyone to see was like coming out all over again. I don't know this to be true for every artist but for me it's flirting with liberation and tip toeing in the dark depths of uncertainty. I find myself questioning my talents, my ideas, my mind itself. Is it worthy of sharing? Will I make an impact? I guess, the answer is yes and the answer is no. Like coming out, you want to be accepted and loved for you who you are, but not everyone will. However, in the process of coming out, you free yourself from the burden of the expectations of others and allow yourself to be free to be you. That is why I am sharing my art. Whether it resonates with you or makes a profound statement to the world, it allows me to be me. That is what I want for all artists, yes, but also for all that walk this earth. Emancipation e·man·ci·pa·tion /əˌmansəˈpāSH(ə)n/ Ect or process of being set free from legal, social, or political restrictions; liberation.

Emancipation is one piece in a series of self portraits entitled #Selfie. Self portraits have dominated my work for the past few years because it allowed me to pour my soul onto the page. I wanted so badly for others to connect to my work and I thought the only way they will know truly how I feel is if they see me for how I see myself. Thus the project #Selfie was born.
